“Now, children, watch closely. Hold your breath. Listen. And I will show you the components of calamity.”

I’m going to keep this brief, as I can’t go into it too much without spoiling this or the previous book, but this book was A-MAY-ZING!

I wasn’t sure on it at first, truth be told, as we follow new characters and I just didn’t connect the way I did with Kady and Ezra – I actually put it down for two months a little way in, as I just wasn’t feeling it. That was such a mistake! But maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood or frame of mind for it back in April/May. I completely devoured this last week – and I NEED Obsidio right now!

“Patience and Silence had one beautiful daughter. And her name was Vengeance.”

As a brief overview, we mainly follow Hanna, the Commanders spoiled daughter, and Nik, member of the House of Knives gang, onboard Jump Station Heimdall. This takes place immediately after the events of Illuminae, and is every bit as fast-paced, action-packed, and twisty-turny. Once I stopped pining for Kady and Ezra and actually gave the new characters a chance, I completely adored the whole story. I’d even venture to say this was even better than the first, as I feel like there’s more character development and growth in this one.

The format of these books puts some people off, but honestly, I cannot get enough – PLEASE GIVE ME MORE! I find it really engaging and it injects so much personality to the characters; as you can actually see their speech/type patterns, Hanna has doodles, and when I see I’m getting to some black pages I get so excited as they feature one of my favourite characters.

I think I’m going to have a little hangover from this book, and want to jump into Obsidio (which will either fix or compound the hangover haha!) – but I also don’t want this journey to be over.

About Me

Books and food enthusiast. I discovered a love for reading in my late teens, so you’ll see me catching up on older series quite often. I also love to travel around the UK, where I live, and picking up some crafty hobbies – I hope to share snippets of this amongst all the book content. Other interests include gaming, podcasts, drinking too much tea, and trying to personify autumn.
