Hello there!
Now. Where oh where, did this month go? I feel like I blinked…
August has been a weird one for me. It started out full of promise reading-wise, was super lack luster, and then MiddleEarthAThon came in clutch and pulled me through into a whirlwind of reading. It was beautiful! I’d only read three books before that final week and the readathon – it’s so crazy to look at how much I read! Thank you again to Lizzie @LizzieIsElf for hosting and asking me to be a part. And to all the other team leaders and participants who made it so enjoyable.
I’ve added all the videos for the readathon to a playlist – it’s a mixture of our announcements, recommendations, tbrs, and the live reading sprints we did each day. It really was so much fun!
The final live is tonight and will have a Rings of Power watchalong (obviously not streaming the show itself) and a bookish quiz! It starts 4pm BST on Lizzie’s channel. You can watch it here! I’ll be joining an hour or two after the start due to work, but I’m sure you’ll see me in the comments before then.

I think there are a couple of other readathons I might decide to jump on, but I also don’t want to overwhelm myself.

August, august, august. What did I do? I honestly don’t think it was much, or has been purged from my memory. You can usually tell how well my mental health is doing by the number of takeaways consumed, and this month… there have been a lot. I probably shouldn’t be writing this post while sleep deprived and in a bit of a dip – I share too much, and generally bring the mood down. But there is also something kind of cathartic about keying down my thoughts. We’ll see if I’ve come back to delete these before posting.
I low key observed Lughnasadh, in my quest to find some things with meaning that I can incorporate into my life. Caught up with some friends for which it had been way too long. And had a little health scare, which turned out was fine and nothing to worry about…

My town did attempt to hold a Hot Air Balloon festival, however it was a little too blustery that weekend, so the balloons were few. It was still good to get out the house – but it means I on’t actually have many photos to share. I also took another trip out to Lake Vyrnwy – with all the hot weather the lake had receded (quite drastically, but I believe they’d also diverted a lot of the reserve to help keep river levels up for wildlife), revealing the foundations of the old village that was flooded back in the Victorian era to make the reservoir. I also saw plenty of amazing sunsets – I love gazing at the sky, especially at night and around sunset (I’ve never up early enough for sunrise haha).
Film and TV-wise, I have started watching Fringe and have got totally sucked in. I’ve also slowly crept along with House of the Dragon (I think I’m a week behind). So far, it is better than I expected it to be. Season 8 of GoT was such a let down and kind of put me off wanting to watch this one. Exceeding expectations, I adored Sandman and am considering bingeing it again. I so so hope it does get another season!
What was your favourite read of August – did you do everything you wanted to?
