June Wrap-Up

Hello! I hope you’re well 🤗

It’s that time again – June has both dragged and been over way too soon for me. Even so, I think this is one of my shorter updates. I haven’t done anywhere near as much as I had hoped to, but on the plus side, my mental health is a little better than last month at least.

I didn’t really read anything for most of the month – there was surge at the end, when I panicked about not having read anything for Total Bollix (and then not overly enjoying what I did read so kept picking up more). But what I carried over is still to be read, and have a few more to add to that stack too…

◍ The Mother Sun – Sui Annukka // 🎧 // ★★★★ // Surya visits the city where the child she was a surrogate for lives, searching to know him and confronting her past.

◍ The Dance Tree – Kiran Millwood Hargrave // 📖 // ★★★★ // historical family drama set against the backdrop of the dancing plague in 1500s Germany.

◍ Heart, Haunt, Havoc – Freydis Moon // 📱 // ★★★★ // short haunted house story with a trans-romance.

◍ The Quiet Stillness of Empty Houses – L.V. Russell // 📱 // ★★★★★ // gothic haunted house vibes with a splash of romance.

books dnf’d

Darkwood by Gabby Hutchinson Crouch. I carried this over last month – I did read a bit more, but have been slumping hard. Most of my reading has been specifically for bookclubs

The Cloisters by Katy Hays is the same as above. July will be the month!! (hopefully)

Interview with the Vampire – Anne Rice, started the audiobook in the midst of my slump. I just struggled to keep my concentration it. Hopefully will re-pick up in July.

Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone – Benjamin Stevenson. I am really loving this meta whodunit, but I picked it up right at the end of the month, so just didn’t finish it within June.

LOOKING FORWARDS – MAY // readathons and book clubs I’m participating in

Total Bollix // Abi @AbiOfPellinor is hosting July’s live, the prompt is nostalgia.

Bye Bye Backlist // run by Fantasy Fellowship // hopefully it’ll be some good motivation to plough through some of my tbr!

The Bookwanderers // run by Celine @ StuffCelineDoes // continuing the summer readathon – beyond the stars.

Gerbitathon // hosted by Hannah @ LadetteMHannah @ LadetteM // The Sims themed readathon. I’m working through the teen prompts at long last!

I feel like I’ve been so busy in June, but also can’t bring to mind what I’ve actually done… I’ve explored many National Trusts at the weekends, which has been lovely – especially as they’re so cool inside these old, thick walled houses. I have not been enjoying the heatwave we’ve had for much of the month – mostly hibernated I guess haha – but it brought with it so many thunderstorms, which I have loved a great deal. I’ve had little moments where I can sit in the window (or even out in the storm on a couple of occasions) and pretend its autumn and all is well with my world.

I’ve also been out to the city for a comedy night. It was a lot of fun, and we’ve booked a few more nights like that for later in the year too! I can’t wait!! It’s so nice to have some things planned to get excited about.

Looking forwards, I had a notification at work that it’d been 140 days since my last holiday, so I’ve booked a week off in July- last second as always with me!! I haven’t decided what to do with it yet, but I am really REALLY looking forward to some proper downtime. The bank holidays have sustained me the last few months, but I am definitely ready for a proper break. I wonder if I can convince Nathan that we should go to Scotland again?

How has your June been? Have you been enjoying the changing seasons?

  1. I haven’t read interview with the vampire, but I have some friends who have liked it so, if you ever decide to pick it back up again, I hope you feel differently than this time!

Also are the photos in the collage taken by you because they are absolutely GORGEOUS and aesthetic!!

  2. Ah, that’s good to know! Hopefully I’ll get more into it 😄

And thank you! They are! I love including a little photo dump from the month – it brings back some good memories sifting through the five hundred thousand photos I’ve usually taken 😂

  3. As per usual, I love the photos, I really miss England. 😭 Spending heatwave time inside those cool stone buildings are a really really smart idea! 😄
And wow, another Natalie Haynes book! Is this one a new release? It sounds interesting!
I hope you manage to convince Nathan to go to Scotland!

    1. Thank you! 🥰 And no, it’s a backlist title for me. Really enjoyed it! And I did not (mostly as I went off the idea as I found out they’ve already broken up for the summer holidays (England is in two weeks time). I am currently in Bath though!

About Me

Books and food enthusiast. I discovered a love for reading in my late teens, so you’ll see me catching up on older series quite often. I also love to travel around the UK, where I live, and picking up some crafty hobbies – I hope to share snippets of this amongst all the book content. Other interests include gaming, podcasts, drinking too much tea, and trying to personify autumn.
